Redd Walitzki
Stranger Than Earth 2017
Seattle-based artist Redd Walitzki paints sensual portraits of ethereal yet slightly-feral, fairytale women. Influenced by the old world Rococo ornamentation of her native Bavaria, Redd creates intricate, swirling laser cut wood canvases whose flourishes echo her fluid use of paint and mixed-media materials.
Her technicolor muses enact a dreamily erotic exploration of both the lure of fleeting modern day high fashion glamor (her subjects are often wearing luminous eye makeup and glossy lipstick) as well as the original meaning of the term glamor, which in ancient times referred to illusory shapeshifting used by supernatural beings to perilously enchant hapless humans.

Redd Walitzki is an internationally-exhibiting artist focused on figurative New Contemporary Art. Recent solo exhibitions include Modern Eden Gallery in San Francisco, Roq La Rue in Seattle, and Corey Helford Gallery in Los Angeles. Her work has been showcased in many galleries including Last Rites in NYC, andbeinArt in Melbourne Australia. She has also been featured on a variety of media outlets including HiFructose, Juxtapoz and Miroir Magazine.
Walitzki finds inspiration in the lush surroundings of her home in the Pacific Northwest, and the ornate Baroque ornamentation of her native Bavaria. The vivid muses in her paintings are influenced by the glamour of high-fashion, while often exploring the darker side of human impact on ecology. Her earliest memories are of painting at the kitchen table with her Grandfather, pulling flowers and foxes out of the bright splashes of pigment.
This initial passion led her to pursue a career as an artist, and Redd completed her B.F.A. from
Cornish College of the Arts with a concentration in Painting.
Most of Redd's pieces are oil and mixed media on laser-cut panel (masonite wood or acrylic panel) The process starts with a watercolor underpainting to begin the composition & texture, which is transferred to the panel on ricepaper & lasercut. Each piece is completed with many layers of oil glazes for depth and detail. Redd can be found in her studio painting to BBC Documentaries, playing with her pet opossum, or chasing down the next strange adventure on her scooter.
