SUNRISES, SUNSETS AND NOCTURNES
Most often sunrises and sunsets are the most peaceful and quiet times of the day and the artist uses soft gestural brushwork to further depict that ambiance. Here Sherry Mason exemplifies the traditional "sfumato" technique with lots of the glazing, scumbling and layering she is known for.

IMPRESSIONIST COLLECTION (PLEIN AIR)
Many prefer the impressionistic look of the plein air paintings and this is my way of providing for those collectors. These little color studies are what I use to investigate the "what if's" and "how about" of color mixing during some of my plein air outings.
They are by no means a finished and polished studio piece but more like an abstraction of observation to add to my toolbox. My plein air paintings are the reference images that I now use for future paintings or studies. I am passionate about painting from life instead of from photos. Many of my paintings in the past were painted from very two-dimensional reference photos, and all the life is not depicted in them. No wonder they are called images. It makes painting what I actually saw when I took the photo much easier to render on a two-dimensional panel when I paint en plein air and use those for references now. Some of these paintings may be used in the future for some of my larger studio pieces.
