Perhaps my favorite go-to series after moving back to the states from Europe, this particular series appeals to my quirky, weird side. Painting models, dressing them in costumes, fabrics and placing them in either simple backdrops, nature or strange surroundings, I create my own theater company of strange souls. Then I photograph them. Sandee Shaffer Johnson became a virtual nomad after getting her post-graduate degree and has not stopped since. For the past 45 years she enhanced her career as a professional artist, photographer and writer. She has been in over 200 group, corporate or solo exhibitions in such art centers as Amsterdam, Beijing, Brussels, Paris, London, Berlin, NYC, Tokyo, Moscow, Seoul, Shanghai, Budapest, Luxembourg, Geneva, Lisbon, Seattle, Portland, Warsaw, Sofia and Rome. She's been chosen for residency programs in multiple locations, adding even more depth to her work. The artist focuses primarily in 2D, proving her mastery in multiple mediums and techniques.
Her subject matter includes social commentary, nature, the environment, abstraction, figurative drawings and surrealism inspired by travel--or living in-- over 90 countries. Sandee's work can be found in museum, corporate and private collections spanning the globe. In her final move, magical Port Townsend has become her permanent residence.
