Sunset: The Rockwell Group for Roche Bobois

NEW YORK, Feb. 7, 2019 -- Renowned luxury international furniture brand, Roche Bobois is pleased to announce its latest design collaboration with The Rockwell Group on the brand’s new outdoor furniture collection, Sunset.

As part of the brand’s Spring/Summer 2019 collection, Sunset has an easy, streamlined look and a clear vocabulary that makes it adaptable to numerous places and spaces. 

The pieces feature a powder-coated aluminum frame with rounded corners offered in dark blue, bronze, or white. The slats are made of a composite material of wood and bamboo fibers, making them durable and UV resistant. With wheels on one end and stackable frames, the lounges are easy to transport and store. Together, the collection
is a customizable kit of parts for outdoor spaces.

Sunset features a range of headrest positions, interchangeable cushions, a fully detachable back support frame and accessories such as a food and drink tray, lumbar pillow and towel sling. The outdoor upholstery fabric comes in a range of colorways, from neutral to bold.
“Each of our products is a response to a need in the marketplace. In the past couple of years, we have designed
many poolside clubs at luxury hotels and resorts that transition from day to night,”

“The ubiquitous sun chaise may be great for getting a tan, but they offer little flexibility in terms of seating style or mood. We designed Sunset to transform along with the activities around it.

With a few simple moves, it converts from a lounger to a sofa with
multiple configurations, creating space for friends to gather.”
“When the opportunity to work with Rockwell came about, I was extremely interested in working on an outdoor collection with one of the most renowned architecture agencies in the U.S. and in the world,” said Nicolas Roche, Roche Bobois’ Creative Director. “I thought that they would have a very pragmatic and realistic
approach to the project, that of a creator and prescriptor.

It was a unique opportunity to work hand in hand with a designer who himself had a very clear idea of the object he needed to furnish his projects. The typology we wanted to work on originally was the lounge chair, poolside or for the beach.

​Then after a few detours and thinking, we came up with the idea of a program that would allow at the same time, daily and evening use: we envisioned it as a program which is as playful as it is versatile, and with a true functional added value. There are many outdoor furniture offerings on the market intended for daily use, but very few that take nighttime into account.”
