STATEMENT
In my paintings, whether landscapes, cityscapes or my slightly surreal "fractured tales,” I am most interested in conveying a sense of light. Morning light, afternoon light, and evening light - they can all set the stage for atmosphere, mood and a place in time.
In my cityscapes, I love exploring the geometries, textures and rhythms of the city. Industrial vs architectural, beauty vs the not-so-beautiful, and trees holding their own amid the man-made.
I work from my own photographs, often creating scenes by collaging. In my landscape and "fractured tales" paintings I make up scenarios about our world and environment and our relation to it, our yearnings and perceptions. A sort of commenting on the passing scene. To me, trees represent the human form and they tell stories. I think of my "fractured tales" paintings as little poems or thoughts. They are mostly sparse in elements but they have just enough information to give an off-balanced sense. I would say most of my paintings have an off-balanced feeling, which is how I experience life.
