Artist Statement:
Creative Sorceress Mollie Kellogg
Incognito Witch works reveal the subject's hidden psyche, suppressed to meet society's expectations.
Mortals become magickal beings draped in mysterious fabrics, adorned with jewels and leaves, wearing messy makeup with a signature flash of color under the eyes. These figures evoke a Mother Nature archetype of power, strength, attraction, empathy and vulnerability.
I began the Project celebrating hidden magick with a series of draped “Inner Portrait” mixed-media paintings, followed by a “Selfie” series. References for Incognito Witch Selfies were submitted by the public, who dressed-up and took selfies for consideration. “There was no stigma, no judgment. I've never felt more safe and accepted.” – Selfie-submitter, Incognito Amanda, New Zealand.
I see my art as a way to promote self-acceptance, laughter, play, healing, community and personal possibility. The inner magick message resonates with like-minded individuals, participants, and organizations that support a mission to change the world through art.
Creation of unique work with a message — combined with lived, felt, reported impact — moves me deeply and moves me forward.

About the Process:
Mixed Media PAINTINGS: The acrylic based paintings are highly textured with sparkling and light-refracting depth. Thinned acrylic paint is poured over a metallic underpainting. While wet watercolor powder, foil stars, glitter are mixed in. Once dry the figure is further defined.
Other mediums in the painting process may include oil pastel, metal foil, watercolor powder, pencil, paint pen, etc. “The metallic pigments together with superior drawing skills enable a three-dimensionality not accomplished by others,” writes Corinne Cain of The Savvy Collector in Phoenix, Arizona.
Mixed Media DRAWINGS: The wash and graphite pencil drawings may also include foil stars, glitter, acrylic, watercolor, color pencil, pen, and foil on watercolor paper. The drawings are an addition to the series to provide a more accessible option for fans of the Incognito Witch Project.
