Capturing the Carolinas in Oil

"Light-Filled Art for Your Home"

I learned early on in my childhood that I loved to create-to make something from "nothing". Creating is integral to who I am as a person and it's what gets me up every morning. I get excited to do what I love by painting and sharing that creation with someone who might make it a part of their life, too! Getting my creative start in black and white photography, I was trained to look for values, and I still use that concept today. Embracing the role of a painter has allowed me to see the world in a new way.

For me, it's all about how light makes highlights and shadows. Every painting starts out as a value study as you can see, above. It's these values and variations in light that make a painting "sing"! Therefore, I try to put that emphasis on light and shadows into all of my paintings. My subjects are varied, but they reflect my interests. There is so much subject matter in the world around us, and I'm inspired by every bit of it!

Mary Kamerer is an impressionist artist oil painter in Charlotte, North Carolina.  Her works have been the culmination of many years of various creative pursuits, and instruction under many nationally known artists.  After graduating with a degree from UNCC and raising a family, she began painting in oils.

An emphasis on light and shadows can be seen in Mary's impressionistic paintings of  landscapes as well as still lifes in her studio at Dilworth Artisan Station.  Her works have been seen in American Art Collector, Frederickburg Literary Review,  Art Guide Artists Directory, Ballantyne Magazine, VoyageATL, SouthPark Magazine and QC Exclusivemagazines.  Most recently, one of her paintings, "Scars are Golden",  was used by Cochrane, a British organization of healthcare workers and scientists distributing the latest in healthcare information.

When I think of Spring flowers, I often think of the glorious forsythia that stood at the corner of our front porch. It was a favorite of my mother’s and every year she would announce that her forsythia had bloomed—-a sure sign of Spring.

Those bright yellow petals always seemed to coincide with Easter, flagging the announcement of new Sunday dresses and sweet anise breads topped with sugar sprinkles. A simple still life of a forsythia branch in water was a sweet, meditative way to remember mom and the house.
Framed in a warm silver museum-style frame.
