Artists Statement
Connecting Spiritual and Human Beings Through a Red Thread
While exhibiting in China, a man told me about a Chinese tale called “The Red Thread” “The Red Thread of Fate.”
According to this myth, the gods tie an invisible red thread around the finger of those that are destined to meet one another. The thread may stretch or tangle but does not break.
One of the sources of inspiration is traveling. Through travelling to other countries, I gather stories from people I meet. Those stories become my inspiration. Other sources of inspiration are other art forms such as opera, theatre, movies. Theatre was a big part of my life growing up in Argentina. Since I was five years old my parents took me to see plays by Shakespeare, Moliere, and Giraudoux
The Red Thread in my art and the spiritual understanding I seek to create also derive from the influences of films which were an important part of my upbringing as well. The movies of directors Ingmar Bergman, Andrei Tarkovsky, Krzysztof Zanussi, and Win Wenders. Those ideas are within many of my paintings that belong to a series.
In my present work I am also beginning to include more abstract concepts. I celebrate life in an unworldly place either in an imaginary landscape or in a theatrical environment that contains real and unreal or spiritual people.
MOVING FROM FIGURATIVE TO ABSTRACT:
In my more recent body of work, I don’t literally paint red threads, but the searching and contemplation derived in the Red Thread legend, the seeking to understand the relationship between human and spiritual beings along with the wandering in unworldly imaginary places are still a large part of my creative process.
My recent work includes the three key elements of my body of work (landscapes/
interiors; human beings; and spiritual beings). However, landscapes/interiors are even more from my imagination rather than any real place and humans and spiritual beings are less distinguishable from each other. More importantly, in these paintings, I am moving from the more figurative to abstract representations particularly for spiritual beings. Being abstract feels the more accurate way to represent spirituality, since spirituality is more like an abstract idea.
These abstract paintings were inspired by works of Soutine that I was reintroduced to at a recent pastel class. Soutine’s work motived me to see how abstraction can expand my modes of expression. I can use colors in a purer way and add freedom to the brush strokes. It presents more clearly the unity of the three key elements of my work and encourages the viewers to bring their own emotional, visual, and intellectual ideas and perceptions. I am hoping the viewers will interpret in a more personal way the otherworldly and spiritual messages in my work. I prefer to include in my paintings spiritual beings that belong to another dimension and help us find our higher selves.
Spirituality is therefore something I want to express to be true to myself.

Mariano Cinat Art ( By David Zelikovsky , art critic)
Mariano Cinat’s latest works reveal a clandestine place of imagination where quiet whispers hauntingly echo ancient and
near forgotten desires of the soul.
Paul Robeson famously said, “Artists are the gatekeepers of truth. We are civilization’s anchor. We are
the compass for humanity’s conscience.”
Mariano Cinat is truly one of those gatekeepers. He extends his family’s long arm of pioneering heritage and continues its extraordinary tradition of socially conscious art. His great aunt and uncle, Raquel Forner and Alfredo Bigatti paved the way for many. Fornerbroke down barriers for women artists and Bigatti instilled great nationalist fervor. Cinat follows suit by helping us reconnect with humanity’s binding grace.
Cinat’s work is of grand scale, reminiscent of monumental displays of public grandeur. Within Cinat’sworld is a quest for reclamation. Power, respect and command lead down paths of infinite recluse.
With untethered mysticism his work transports us to a timeless quarry of semi-lucent architecture and
endless landscapes of indeterminable imagination.
Regression of the human Intellect ensues as we are thrown, tumbling down the corridors of our subconscious. Cinat’s ever allusive lower level, littered with remnants of lives gone by, is by far vestigial.
By turning perception inside out with minimal referential context, Cinat successfully allows us to suspend our trained thought and expectation to experience more unconventional perspectives. With a moment’s calm Cinat sets the stage with the juxtaposition of ambiance and environment, creating an ethereal realm, near magical in origin.
Be not afraid of spiritual idiosyncrasies but rejoice in the continuity of life. Experience the nuance of a master of color and emotion as Cinat refreshes the senses. Awaken from our slumber in a world void of connectivity.
