I was raised in a small Minnesota town. My brother introduced me to the beauty of the great outdoors. Rural Minnesota landscapes offer much to appreciate - from meandering creeks, wetlands, marshes, hills, ditches, birds and bugs. My high school art teacher formally introduced us to creative thinking and representation. Forever I will remember her taking the 9th grade art class to our first taste of plein air painting. We did ink drawings of thistles growing on the side of the road. I was hooked.
Finding beauty in everyday objects became a passion. After college, a career in healthcare I re-acquainted myself with drawing and painting. It started by attending my first class at a local art center - which happened to have great instructors. Eventually I attended and completed their school of realism. Working in graphite, charcoal and oil are now my choice of media. Portraiture, landscapes and still life are my favorite subjects. Plein air landscapes broadened my skills in ways not anticipated. It requires decisiveness. Window of opportunity is 2-3 hours to complete a painting. Make a decision and stick with it
I have participated in workshops offered by: Michael Klein, Marc Hanson, Sherry McGraw, Scott Lloyd Anderson, Mark Balma, Richard Abraham, Kathie Wheeler, and Michael Mentler. To name a few.
My paintings have been shown regionally at juried Art shows, art fairs. Outdoor painters of Mn and Plein Air competitions.
