Artist Statement
The Growth of Character
There is a profound silent vision in the architecture of a tree. These tall friends have endured wind, sun, rain and history. It is written in the deep tissues of their bark and the dramatic, twisted reach of their limbs. Trees are more than just part of the landscape they are silent witnesses to history. My work is a celebration of the enduring character captured through the lens and transformed through color.
Process of the Artist
My creative Journey moves through two distinct phases:
1 . The Discovery: Photograph trees with distinct personalities those with complex textures dramatic silhouettes or unusual growth patterns.
2. The Alteration:
Using these photos as a canvas, I alter the light and palette. By introducing "beautiful brights" I am to pull the tree out of the shadows of the forest and into a space of pure expression.

Being from a creative family of nine, I've always been interested in art of many genres. I grew up on Mt Tabor, an extinct volcano in Portland, Oregon, always exposed to an abundance of various forms of nature.
The natural art in these earthly embodiments set me on a journey of artistic discovery.
I now live on three acres in Yamhill County, loaded with trees of character. I wake up in the morning to the extremely loud sound of flicker woodpeckers banging new holes in my house. They like wood in many phases of life,
Most of my initial photos, which start the process, are on my own property, my home, surrounded by heaven on earth: trees. So, I know, I'll always be in love.
