Growing up, I wanted to be an actor. Then I landed a professional acting job. I didn't dislike acting, but I did dislike the boredom of doing the same thing in the same way for months or years - if I was lucky.
So, where does photography come in? As a young child and pre-teen, I used "the kids' Brownie camera" and an early Kodak Instamatic. Once I reached my early teens, I wanted a camera of my own. When I was about 14, I received my first personal camera, a "Pocket” Instamatic. I used that camera for more than 15 years. In the middle of my college years, my father "loaned" me his Miranda 35MM camera. I shot my first black-and-white photos with the Miranda and a college professor taught me how to print them. I was hooked. I never gave the Miranda back.
My photographic subjects have included West Greenwich Village, the New York Botanical Garden, and Hudson River Park. San Francisco is a favorite out-of-town subject. International subjects include the Amalfi Coast, Pompeii, Rome, Florence, and Venice, as well as Sicily and Calabria.
I hold degrees from Onondaga Community College (A.A.S), Earlham College (B.A.), Fordham University School of Law (J.D.), and School of Visual Arts (Master of Professional Studies - Digital Photography). During my Master's program, which took place during the Covid-19 epidemic, I used as my models and subjects the people and features of West Greenwich Village, the neighborhood that my husband and I have called home for more than 30 years.
