Fran Noonan is a self-taught artist.
He was raised in a large creative family where all were encouraged to pursue the arts. Fran had a keen interest in drawing and playing classical piano. After attending the Van Gogh exhibition at the Albright Art Gallery at age seven, he began oil painting. This interest was encouraged by his uncle, who was an artist himself, and his high school art teacher. When family time constraints limited his time for painting, he concentrated on classical music. Fran returned to oil painting in 2003 as if no time had passed.
To date, he works in landscape depictions with influences from the Impressionists, Tonalists, and Symbolists. There is a strong connection to the natural imagery found in Western New York where he has lived all his life. From Niagara Falls to the Boston Hills, combined with the four distinct seasons, there is infinite inspiration for a visual artist. Working in oils, he aspires to capture the moods and character created by the interplay of light and shadow that this area presents.
His work can be seen at the Copley Society of Art (Boston, Ma.), Artists Group Gallery, Meibohm Fine Arts, Glass Growers Gallery, Memberships include The Copley Society of Art, The Buffalo Society of Artists, and the Western New York Artists Group.
