ARTIST STATEMENT

I keep three key memories of my childhood sharp in my memory:
The first, the cover of the book “Ramillete de mujeres universales”, by AntonioJ.   Onieva,   education   inspector,   journalist   and   writer.
The book,a set of biographies of famous women in history and that my mother kept jealously on the
shelf in the dining room, became one of my favorite readings during childhood.

The second, the emotion i felt when i saw the large box of watercolors that, just after six years of age,
i found one kings morning next to the little shoe placed on the balcony of my house.
The third, the impact experienced at the age of seven by the paintings of the great Spanish masters: Goya, Velázquez, El Greco, Murillo...hanging on the walls of the Prado Museum and with which  I immediately fell in love, holding tightly to my father's hand.

Then i discovered that art is beauty. And so i have gone throughout my life looking for beauty,
which has come from different places, cities, and people; those whom i have been close to, within my environment,
or who have been the product of strong experiences.

“Every man is born with the germ of the work he has to accomplish”, said J.Russell Lowell, poet and literary critic.
In this way, on the path that we begin as soon as we are born, we start from the innate need to express feelings,
affections and vital needs in order to move towards communication with others in our inner world, a need that in artists is configured
as motivation basic in their daily work. Fascination, observation, immersion in reality,
the first phase of a whole creative process, of a dialogue established with the object, with the person,
with the building, with the street, with nature, in which from the first
brushstroke begins to materialize the inner world of the artist.

I paint the old way. I prepare my canvases or tables, i sketch the idea of the work,
i delimit and stain with brushes or with a spatula the parts in light and in shadow... And, layer by layer,
i elaborate, define, transform, erase... It does not matter time... Bach, Chopin, Handel, Schubert, Mahler,
accompany me...And, although it is   difficult   for   me   to   conclude   a   work   -the   process,   the movement,
are   implicit in the human being himself and also in artistic creation- there
comes a day when i observe that this little pictorial autobiography is already
expression the idea, the result of that initial fascination.

Thus the work becomes independent from the artist and establishes its own relationship with others,
to continue its permanence in time.
