Audrey Hyvonen
makes quilts with commercial fabrics, natural imagery and abstract representation. As a textile artist, she explores traditional and mosaic piecework, layered collage and mark making through quilt texture. Audrey’s work has traveled in tours throughout the United States, Europe and Australia.
Regionally she has been a presenter for the SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Association) conference and currently has work in their show Broad Spectrum: Abundant Palette which is touring Idaho and Montana for the next year.
Her design work is featured digitally on the electrical box in downtown Kalispell on the corner of 1st and Main and more of her work can be found at Marketplace on Main in Cut Bank MT. After a time working as a grant-supported teaching artist at assorted elementary, middle and high schools in Massachusetts, she now works out of her home-based studio in Kalispell MT.

This wall piece explores the tension between holding & discretionary release through representation of a shape which involves a center & some sort of surround. Through use of texture and line, the direction of flow is indicated and the intensity of movement is highlighted.
Though meant to be exploratory, this piece is also soothing and contemplative. It would be a fabulous addition to a bathroom or entrance hall, where contemplation is encouraged and can be inspiring.
This 9 inch square piece is mounted on a 16 inch square stretched canvas with a wooden frame. The shipping charge can be minimized by shipping only the quilt and not the frame. Please convo for arrangements if desired.

The themes I explore in my work always circle back to exploring some sort of tension: Hold/release, accept/reject, binary/non-binary, strength/vulnerability. I appreciate the medium of quilts as a soft entry into potentially hard conversations about loaded topics and use my social collaborations to facilitate some of those opportunities. In this project, the jagged stripes and the high contrast colors of the flag are a nod to our current political atmosphere and resulting mood of our people as a nation.
