The Hobbiton Movie Set at Shires Rest is just 20 minutes drive from ArtHouse.
ArtHouse B&B is owned and operated by Denise & Bruce - our home is full of art treasures collected
from around New Zealand and overseas over some 20 something years.

If you have a love of art, you’ll be interested to stay with us in one of our three guest rooms when you visit the
Waikato region of New Zealand. You’ll find us ideally situated on the outskirts of Matamata.

We are just 9 minutes drive from Matamata and 20 minutes from Hobbiton.  

Our setting is delightful amid the soft contoured, gently rolling countryside  with lovely views of Mt. Te Aroha and the Kaimai Ranges. You’ll find ArtHouse B&B offers a quiet and restful country stay but is close to excellent restaurants, cafes and shopping in the small village of Matamata.
We promise you a unique stay – culture in the country!

Accommodation

SALLY'S ROOM

From $180 per night for 1-2 persons including breakfastSallys Room is west facing so catches the afternoon sun beautifully.

This room is also en-suited with under-floor heating, shower, heated towel rails, vanity and toilet.  The bedroom has a king size bed (with an electric blanket for those chilly nights) and is made up with high quality linen.  We have used vibrant colours (blues and coral) in this room to work with Sallys colourful watercolours.  Over the bed you will find a contemporary landscape of a small town called Amberley, just north of Christchurch. 
The second painting in this room is also by Sally – one of her delightful frivolous nudes.

The third painting in this room is a cubist style nude by Auckland artist, Patterson Parkin. The room has free wi-fi and a wall-mounted TV and  overlooks a garden planted with Burgundy Iceberg Roses, Lavenders, Burgundy Hydrangeas and Buxus with views
of the Richmond Hills in the background.

Whichever room you choose, you can be assured of a sumptuous breakfast served in the Breakfast
nook overlooking cow paddocks with Mt. Te Aroha in the distance.

The Swan Room

From $195 per night for 1-2 persons including breakfast
The Swan Room is the largest of our 3 rooms. If you like to wake up to the sun, this room is perfect for you. 

It has a king size bed (with an electric blanket for those chilly nights) and made up with high quality linen.  The decor is in soft moody blues and greens pulled from the lovely soft dreamy watercolours by Ruth Killoran and a delightful small bird painting by Galina Kim. The room has free wi-fi and a wall-mounted TV with lovely views across the paddocks towards the Kaimai Ranges. On a clear morning you can see Wairere Falls. 

The very spacious en-suite has under-floor heating, a walk in shower, toilet, heated towel rails, vanity and a LED make-up mirror.

The Peony Room

From $165 per night for 1-2 persons including breakfast

​The Peony Room is also west facing and features a stunning floral painting.

This room features twin beds with pillow top mattresses and also includes electric blankets and high quality linen.
The room has free Wi-Fi and a wall-mounted TV.  The Peony painting, by Christchurch artist Galina Kim, works beautifully with the garden outside tying the burgundy and green colours together. The second painting is a limited edition work by Marc Chagall.

A private bathroom across the hall with under-tile heating, shower, heated towel rail, vanity and toilet is
solely for Peony Room guests. Luxury Velour Bathrobes are provided for your use.

ArtHouse is full of art treasures - paintings, glass and sculpture in the guest rooms and also throughout the property to create a truly authentic and unique bed & beakfrast experience. Both Sallys Room and The Swan Room have king size beds complete with en-suite bathrooms.

Our Peony room has a super king bed (convertible to twin on request) with an exclusive private bathroom across the hall. Each guest room has free Wi fi access, TV and high quality bed linen, electric blankets and under-tile heating in the bathrooms. Whichever room you choose, you can be assured of a sumptuous breakfast served in the Breakfast nook overlooking cow paddocks with Mt. Te Aroha in the distance. 

Please note that ArtHouse B&B is not suitable for infants or children under 12 years of age. All of the property is smoke-free – indoors and outdoors. And sorry, no pets although Roxy, our black cat does live here!
